Tories willi stick to health promise, says Ted Chudlei*gh By IRENE GENTLE The Champion Boosting health care spending by 20 per cent is an election promise that the Tories intend to keep, says Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh. But the beefed-up investment isn't Iikely to be a free ride, he wamed. "Traditionally, governments have thrown rooney at probleros and that is irre- sponsible," said Mr. Chudleigh. "How we spend that extra rooney is important." 'The answer, he said, is to manry the cash with accountability. "In some of the public opinion testing we did, people still believed there's a lot of waste in health care. I think there will have to he performance strings attached to that rooney." Exactly how that will be accomplished hasn't been determined. But one thing is Iikely - it will bug someone, said Mr. Chudleigh. "I'm sure there will be a great deal of opposition to anything we do that involves change." But two months into the Tory govero- ment's second majority victory, Mr. Chudleigh is prepared to follow the plan that got his party elected in the lirat place. "The four year business plan is clearly laid out for people so they know what they are voting for," he said, referring to the Tory blueprint.
