The under 12 record now stands at 2-2-O in Tammy Merritt gave Bhe Magic the early league play. Second place was on the line as the Milton Magic Under 10 boys soccer squad confronted Guelph, and when the dust had settled not only did Milton own that turf, they had scored a shutout and extended their win- ning streak to three games. Il was a confidence builder for the Magic, who had started the season slowly, dropping their first two con- tests. Kevin Marshall got Milton on the scoreboard early Monday night when he outran a Guelph player to snag a bail that had been launched through the defence by Milton's Nic Horbasz. Mark Glinny and Nick Ronan had started the play by deftly moving the ball up from Milton's zone. Building on that momentum, Milton scored a few minutes later when they converted a textbook comer kick into a goal. Tyler Sieben crossed the ball to Marshall, who piv- oted and passed to Horbasz, uncovered in the middle. Horbasz tipped in goal two by outstretching the Guelph goalie. Guelph pressed to create some chances in the first hall, but key saves by Milton goalie Ryan Mitchell and strong defensive play from Jon Monk, Luc Hartwick and Derek McKay curbed those threats. The Magic re-asserted control of the game in the second half as midfielders Jeremy Price and Max Mouscos kept the ball moving forward to David McLean, Joey DeAthe and Jeffrey Mountain. Strong midfield play led to the third goal as Sieben crossed to Horbasz, who one-timed it into the net. Matthew Claessens and Robert Rubino rounded out a solid team effort, which augers well going into the Robbie Toumament on the Canada Day weekend. Novice Mavs make a move They had been knocking ai the door and now they've finally stepped through. The Milton Maverick novice reps doubled Fergus 4-2 to earn their first win of the lacrosse sea- son June 16. Milton's inaugural victory came in front of hometown fans at Tonelli Sports Centre. Previously, Milton had suc- cumbed to Fergus by a margin of 8-1. The Koski Glass sponsored team went undefeated over two contests by drawing Kitchener at three. They had battled to a 3-3 tie with the Braves in their previous encounter as well. Milton's record now stands at one win and tive losses with two ties. Three of the losses had been by two goals or less. In the game that put them in the win column for the first time, Michael Brown tallied twice while Cole Madansky scored unassisted and Scott Stover rounded-things out. Bradley Hoy and John Grant earned assists. Matthew Clark provided strong goaltending and was helped out by a solid defensive effort. In front, Ian Goertz, Kevin Winter, Ryan Lecky, Brad Mazzocato, Ryan Williams and David Majka were steady. Lecky scored unassisted in the first period against Kitchener, and Majka matched that a few minutes later. Madansky, from Clark, got Milton's other goal in the third, to guarantee the tie. Milton played with a depleted line-up due to injury, sickness and other commitments. Clark, in goal, was outstanding, particularly late in the third frame when he tumed back two Kitchener breakaways in the final minute of play. Clark also passed to Madansky to set up the tying goal. Adrian Eppinger and Joseph Gazzola played strongly, as did Riley Duke, Mac Fillman and Mike Vipond, with excellent penal- ty killing to preserve the tie. Behoo-tiful double drives in 3 Milton's Nadalin Electric bantam girls sandwiched two wins between a pair of losses to post a .500 record at their first tournament of the year in North Bay last week. In the opener Mississauga edged Milton 7-6 despite a Milton rally that saw them score three in the top of the sixth to shape a 6-5 lead. Mississauga got two back in the bottom of that inning to lock up the win. Katie Wollaston pitched two innings of strong middle relief for Milton, allowing no runs. Nicole Gooding and Haley MacDonald provided pop ai the plate, each notching a pair of singles and ush- ering in two runs. In game two Milton bested Burlington Blue 10-4. Ashely Behoo was prominent at the plate for Milton, clubbing a double and two singles that brought in three runs. Behoo's moon shot double in the fourth reached the fence in cen- tre field. Chantale Desroches started the game, allowing only one run and striking out three batters. Milton had an easy time in the following game against North Bay, downing their hosts 14-2. Behoo stayed hot at the plate, adding a double and two more singles to her stats, with four RBI to top that off. Lindsay Cook pitched for Milton, who held North Bay to only three hits. Burlington White jumped all over Milton in the playoff round, scoring 10 runs in the first inning and cruising to a 24-2 victory. The for $g no sospor nosessary not valid with any tier offer.
