Today's column features two extremely talented [auras. Laura Jeffrey has one of the most beautiful and moving voices in this area. [aura is a soprano and voice teacher. She has performed professionally locally with the Milton Choristers, the University of Guelph Chorale, and the University of Guelph Early Music Ensemble. Her other professional engagements have included; the Orpheus Choir of Toronto, Mississauga Opera Repertory Company and the Mohawk College Singers. She bas performed numerous solo recitals n Milton, Guelpb, and Toronto. Her repertoire spans Baroque 10 201h Century and includes opera and oratorio. [aura bas been sbaring ber gift witb ber students since 1990. Students range in age from seven to seventy, at levels from beginner to advanced. Her studio also offers opportunities for performance both in class and through recitals, festivals and competitions. Her professional associations include the Milton Music Teachers Association, which she bas served as President since 1998. She is an Affiliate Teacherwith the Royal Conservatory of Music, a member of the Canadian Voice Care Foundation and new President of Arts Miltpn. One of [auras many passions is the sirnging ensemble "Women of «Note." She was founder and is a director 'of Ibis nine- woman group. Tbey perform an eclectic program that includes everytbing from sacred music to sbowtunes. They have performed for dinner entertainment for r.nany area organizations. Twice a year tbey perform two of their own concerts - one at Christmas and the other in the spring. Their reputation bas caused them 10 be in higb demand for entertaining area groups. [aura Kingsbury bas a studio gallery, called appropriately The Wood Heron, located in Georgetown. [aura is a self- taugbt artist wbo works mostly in watercolours, altbougb recently she bas been working in botb pastels and watercolours. [aura specializes in woodland creatures. Her work captures tbe beauty and character of ber subjects. Sbe bas publisbed ten books of Fine Art [imited Edition [ithographs. Private and corporate collectors in countries around the world including England, Australia, Germany, Russia, Zambia and the United States seek ber originals and prints. The Canadian Government bas presented two of ber [imited Edition Prints to the President of Zambia, Kenneth Kuanda and Bonis Yeltsin of Russian. She is kept continuously busy with commissions. Starting July 5, the Town wili launch its tifth annual aits day camp. Milton also offers camps for theatre, sports and swimming. A regular day camp wiii serve ares kids a steady diel of games, trips and craîts. Finally, the lazy, hazy days ot summer will cool down with the Town's three- week summer's end camp. That shlows the 5 10 10 year old set a chance to send the summer off in style betore heading back 10 school. Overaîl, about 1,000 kids participated in Town-operated summer camps last year. Drawing and painting as well as pup- petry and mask-making are on the program at the art camp, open t0 children 10-14 years old._______ Games and weekly field trips are also part otf the package that costs about $80 a week, said camp coordinator Jason Panda. Kids can sign up for one, some or ail portions of' the nine-week camp, which spotlighls a different art form each week.
