Schuyler Home Hardware and Building Centre, owned by Milton residents Larry and Lois Schuyler, placed firat in its dis- trict in a recent in-bouse competition for botb 1997 and 1998. "We feel pretty good about it," said Mr. Scbuyler. "We've got to keep striving to get better every year." Tbe Milton district encompasses about 36 stores in tbe Niagara escarpment and Kitchener area. Overaîl, judges looked at 960 stores in 19 districts tbrougbout Canada. The stores were judged on retailing, merchandise presentation, staff performance and overail store quality. The Scbuyler store opened in 1973 and now employa about 28 people. For tbe next year, employees will be wearing lapel pins commemorating tbeir award. Mr. Scbuyler credîts bis staff for belping tbe store corne out tops twice in a row. "We bave some staff members wbo bave been bere for over 20 years," be said. "Our staff is a big reason we did s0 well." As a resident of Milton, Mr. Scbuyler said be is betier able to understand tbe needs of bis customers. "You get to knoW your customer.
