Gas used to blow up home A 54-year-old man killed in a Campbellville house explosion in February deliberately caused the blast using gasoline, Halton Regional Police have confirmed. Rudy Stotyn died in the blast that lev- elled the 170-year-old Guelph Line resi- dence during the early morning hours Febniary 11. Mr. Stotyn, who waa in the midat of a property settiement witb bis estranged wife of Caledon East, was alone when be destroyed the couple's former home. Police said Mr. Stotyn doused the premises - listed in bis wife's name - with a large amounit of gasoline. He tben produced an open fiamne wbich, exposed to the gasoline fumes, caused thse explosion and subsequent ire. Gas containers found at scene Over the three days prior to the blast, Mr. Stotyn purchased 19 20-litre plastic containers filled with gasoline, said Det. Sgt. Jackie Gordon. Several of thse containers were found on thse property. TMm finding of gasoline as thse source of the blast was determined by the Centre for Fooensic Sciences in Toronto. Police said evidence at thse scene also determined that Mr. Stotyn's death likely wasn't accidentai.
