Thse Spring Seatbelt Campaign, which began Thursday and runs until April 15, is designed ta create awareness about the importance of wearing a seatbelt and properly securing a child seat restraint. The OPP wili take tisis opportunity ta, remind motorists that traffie accidents are among the leading causes of death each yesr in Ontario - snd that anc third of ail people killed in motor vehi- cie collisions weren't wearing a seatheit. In 1998, the OPP seat beit campaign checked more than 402,000 vehicles, resulting in more than 8,500 charges, with more than 6,000 warnings issued.
