Basically, we try to have an overali positive impact on chiltiren and families," she remarked, adding, "We're very excited about the nomination, it's a huge honour for us to be tbought of in such a nice way." Equally honoureti by bis group's nomiànation was Dcrek Hodge, district commrissioner for Milton Scouting. A volunteer witb the youth group for 24 years, he said helping young people achieve their full potential - through duty to Go., otbers andi tbemselves - is tbe primary aim. "I was in scouting as a boy and a lot of tbe sanie values and principles are stiil applied today," said Mr. Hodge, wbo descnibed tbe nomidnation as fantaatic. "We want to give these kids life akilîs an tbey're capable of tbinldng for tbemselves." This, he explainei, is done tbrough outdoor ativentures like camping andi hiking during whicb youngsters learn problem-solv- ing ails as well as respect for nature. That's one area the group is particularly committeti to, through tbeir 'Adopt-A-Road' efforts and other conservation pmojects. Youngstcrs also participate yearly in the Town's Gooti Neigbbours Day and occasionally visit senior citizens.
