Regional counicil approved tacking on an appeal for more lieds in the south after Oakville Councillor Stephen Sparling requested equal consîderation for the more populous Halton municipalities. Mr. Sparling was reacting to an upcoming proposai to the Ministry of Healtb by the Region for 68 new bed5 at Allendale'i Martin House in Milton. At presen, the long tersa facility bas 100 lieds. "tjust want to know if tbere's more we can do to let the Ministiy know we need more beds built ASAP in south Halton," said Mr. Sparling. "I'm not trying to hold up beds in Martin Hous." Burlington Councillor Jack Dennison argued against doing anything to harrsa Martin House's chances with thse Ministry. "I'd bate to think that Use beds in the south would nos corne in coincidence or along with the ones at Martin House," be said. "There are definitely economies to be bad in adding 68 beda." Halton sbould guard against confusing the provin- cial govemment, warned Oakville Councillor Liz Behrens. "This counicil appears to lie a bit schizopbrenic," sbe noted. "We'd like to subrmis an application for more beda at MardIHouse and Usen say Usat we need Use beda in the south." The proposai should make it clear Usat Use beds for the souUs would lie in addition to those for Martin Hous, she said. That suited Mr. Sparling fine. "I'm not bere to staîl our efforts ait Martin House," he repeated. "This isn't to give anynne at Martin Hous the jitters." Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale said Usat as far as she is concemred, Use Province did Use rigbt Using in leav- T ing Martin Houas out in Use cold duning the last go- round. At tbat time, 650 new beds were awarded to Burlington, Oakville and Halton HuIs by thse Long Tersa Care Minister, Casa Jackson. "I'sa deligbsed at Use wisdom of the Province," said Ms Mulvale. "Thse Province said 'This is wbere the needa are. If Halton can't figure Usat ou, we cani."' Ms Mulvale argued that sbippîng people from Burlington and Oakville up to Martin Hous for care puts unfair stress on famiàly and friends. "People want to lie near Useir Ioved ones," she said. That raised the backles of Halton Hilîs Mayor Marilyn Serjeansson, wbo nobed that people in smalîer areas alan prefer to stay close to Useir near and dear. 'Tve been approacbed by people wbo feel Use saine need as people in Burlington and Oakville to be near their loved ones," sise said. "Just because you bave 130,000 (residents), there are people (living in places wiUs populations of) 70,000 wbo wanb Useir Ioved ones in Use Useir cosasunity." Burlingson Councillor John Taylor cautioned tbat more beda in the souUs would lead to big cbanges ai Allendale. "People are eventually going to transfer to new beda to be dloser to loved ones," be said. "Allendale in time will become a local faciîity and in time, Allendale will bave to reinvent itseif." 9914-T-76-06 for a 1999 Clas7Articulating Motor Grader complete wid, variable Horsepower Configuration and 99-105-T-70.48 for the 1999 Feet Reuirements indudinga One Tonne DumplCrew Cab, 1/2 Tonne Pldwup and a 6 Tonne Dunsp Truck complete wlth Plow and Sanding Equipinent and 99-106-T-765-77 for a 1999 Model Low Tilt Cab and Ch"asiMounted Pure Vacuum ype Street Sweeper Sealed Tenders on forms supplied by the Town of Milton will be received by the Corporate Services Department until 2:00 P.M. local time on: Wednesday, Mardi 24,1999 Specifications and Form of Tender may be obtained at the Town Hall, 43 Brown Street, Milton, Ontario, Coiporate Services Deparlsacot.
