A former bank executive, Mr. Gormnan and his fasnily moved to Milton froni Toronto on Halloween Day, 1971. Then four years later hie moved his used car business, which originated in Elmiùra, to town - at Denry Road and Ontario Street. 'This was in no irnaîl way thanks to the co-operation and help of Fred Arnold, who operated his John Deere business from this location," Mr. Gorman recalîs. Mr. Amnold, who left his own business nine years ago and works for Gorrud's today, watched over and tended to both huai- nesses front that location. In 1982, the cornpany acquired its current Steeles Avenue home - the old Superior Propane property - where both businesses moved. Gorrud's is genuinely a famiùly firm as, in 1989, Mr. Gorman's oldeat son Andrew left university to devote his efforts to tise auto business. 'Today hie is general manager and bas been the driving force in the growth and success of the business," says Mr. Gorman who, hirnacîf, retired frorn thecorporate world five years ago and brought his presence to the operation. "He came on board and neyer looked back. He's a work- aholic." Andrew was laterjoined by Mr. Gorman's youngest son JoeI. Mr. Gorman said Gorrud's is far frorn a stereotypical used car dealersbip that is "here today and gone tomorrow" and doesn't protect customers fromn the risk of buying a used vehicle. He said Gormud's provides warranties and pays close attention to detail, particularly when it cornes to the quality of vebicles for sale. "'t'ey have to meet our standards," bie said. "We really gen- uinely try to rnake sure that everyone is happy."
