** QURi 'nie Càuidan Chàmpoion, Tuesday, NovemberlO0, 1998 -17 READERS WRITE _ Vandals simply morons Dear Editor: The mindless vandalism that marred an other- wise perfect Halloween was of course, as your November 3 editorial says and as everyane knows, the work of cawards -- a diabolical diversion for idle hands and feet. But just as cowardly are the ieft-wing lunatics responsibie for the ludicrous laws that make such hehaviour officially acceptable. Regardless of the excuses made by psycholo- gists, it's liard to swallow the theory that all van- daIs and muggers tum to hurting others because they have been hurt themselves. The more Obvions reason is that thev are sim- ply violenlt ifloronSs w- lOOW itl quite sale 10 perform their dastardly deeds because theres simply nothing for them to fear. They know that even if they could lie cauglit they wouldn't lie punished. Thanks ta the fools who foisted the pernicious Young Offenders Act on us, we would not even lie allowed ta know their names. Fully aware that they have mare riglits than their victims, these mishegotten thugs smash, steal and injure with absolute impunity. They do il, as the oid dog joke goes, because they can. Under a sensible justice system, these punks wouid lie pilloried. It will only get worse, of course, when Mitan is just as mdely robbed of its rare small town charmn hy unscrupulous [olhitRicins ami çrohni-, developers who insist that biggcr is better andl threaten to tumn it into a sprawiing 'Mississilton'. The gun Iaw alienates grass roots Canadians and will do little for crime contrai. 1 don't believe there's a Liberal conspiracy ta repress Canadians' liberty, but 1 do think the Chretien govemment, if only subcansciausly, sees the writing on the wali -- that its exces- sive social engineering is breaking down this country's moral and social ethnic. Bad ideolagy is the root of the problem. Socialism and the Chretien govemnment' s liberal humanism are ideolagical brothers. Far them to survive they must exert increasing control over soci- ety, for their inherent nature is to evolve into totalitarism. This regressive political process was largely initiated by Pierre Trudeau and the Charter of Rights. Successive Canadian govem- ments have followed suit and their policies have been catalysts towards our diminished freedom. 'he Chretien governiment, in its ignorance, is n0w fast-tracking this counitry's demise. Legisiation detrimental ta the traditional family and Judeo-Christian values, the support and funding of special interest groups at the expense of the average citizen, char- ter led judicial activism and public funded multi-cuituralisin have ahl been breedîng racial, gender and cultural divisians. The outcome of this ideological progression will be increasing crime, domestic violence and socio-racial disruption. Confiscation of guns as well as greater restriction on free speech and public demonstrations will fit on only too well. What do you think will come next?
