Construction of tise $6 million Marian Courtyard Seniors Residence was launched during a ceremony at tise Martin Street site. "We can't believe it. It's been so long," said an ecstatic Martisa Gleeson, chair of the project's board of directors. While construction of the four-storey building east of thse churcis is expected to begin by tise end of tise month, Ms Gleeson said it's isard to believe the con- cept has finally corne together. Members of the church first discussed building.a retirement residence on the site six years ago and they have spent tise last two-and-a-isalf years selling units and gaining govemment approvals. Ms Gleeson said 35 of the residence's 50 self-con- tained units have been sold, giving the board enough capital froui down payments to start construction. Units range in price from $94,000 to $160,000. Designed by architect Victor Heinrichs, the resi- dence's units feature six different floor plans with lim- ited options to customize. Units are available in one-bedroom, one-bedroomn plus a den and two-bedroom layouts. Selected units allow for optional solariums and fieplaces. A heated underground parking garage will provide security and convenience. Thse building's design is architecturally integrated into and compliments the existing Holy Rosary com- munity, Ms Gleeson said.
