A 17-year-old Mississauga youth suf- fered serious but not life-threatening injuries when the car she was riding in struck a tree and caught on fire. Three vehicles were driving northbound on Ninth Line south of Britannia Road shortly after 7 p.m. when the crash occurred. The middle vehicle, a gold Ford Probe, pulled out to pass the first vehicle, said Constable Doug MacIntosh of Halton Regional Police's public safety unit. As it did, the third vehicle in the line, a full-size red pick-up, also tried to pass. The Ford Probe passed the first car and pulled back into the northbound lane. The truck continued on, overtaking the Ford. Southbound traffic was approaching and Woman killed in collision A two-car crash on Trafalgar Road near Derry Road Saturday night claimed the life of an Oakville woman. Shortly before midnight, a minivan trav- elling northbound on Trafalgar Road crossed into the southbound lane and struck a veicte head-on. Joanne Lett, 52, of Oakvitle, who was driving the southbound vehicle, died in the crash. Greta Spalding-Martin, the driver of the northbound vehicle, was transported to Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga where she was treated and released. The drivers were the sole occupants of the vehicles. The collision is under investigation by Halton Regional Police's public safety unit. "As it did so, the driver of the Ford lost control," Constable MacIntosh said. "The Ford crossed into the westbound ditch, struck a tree and caught fire." The four occupants - three males and a female - exited the car. The males suf- fered minor injuries and the female had head injuries and bums. The three males were treated and released from hospital while the female youth was transported to St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. The red pick-up truck didn't stop, police said. Police are interested in talking to anyone who witnessed the collision. Investigators are also seeking assistance to identify the pick-up truck driver and locate the vehicle. The truck is described as a red full-size newer model GMC Sierra with a silver- gray stripe at the bottom. Concert series opens Monday A two-concert series held to devel- op young talent will begin Monday at the Milton Seniors' Activity Centre. ' Featured during the. first show will be cellist Kirk Starkey. Joining him will be local pianist Erin Schachter. The following Monday, Aug. 17 pianist David Sharpe wili take centre stage. Mr. Sharpe will be joined by Elaine Lau and the Healey Willan Piano Concerto. Both shows start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults, or $8 for students and seniors.
