Management to look at offer by HASS Union By TIM WHITNELL Special to The Champion The executive director of Halton Adolescent Support Services said the sttiking union's contract counter-proposal contains an interesting idea, but it may not be enough to end the impasse. Ugo Fîlice said Thursday 10 of HASS's 13 board of director members would meet that evening to discuss the offer made by Local 262 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. He said a vote would be taken and a result conveyed to union representatives as soon as possible. The union rep for Local 262, Darrell Baudoux, could be not be reached for comment at press time. HASS's 55 striking mem- bers, many of them part-timers, have been on the picket line since rejecting a management contract offer Iuly 16. The unionized workers have been working without a con- tract since December 31, 1996. HASS provides counselling and treatment to more than 750 troubled youths and their fami- lies annually. The chase began at 8 p.m. when a 1992 Buick parked on the shoulder of Martin Street north of Steeles Avenue fled upon the arrivaI of a police officer. Police said the officer was stopping to help with what he thought was a disabled vehicle when the Buick suddenly drove into reverse and sped away northbound in the southbound lanes.
