Halton Regional Police Chief Peter Campbell bas announced he wili turm in is badge at the end of the year. The 55-year-old chief, who indicated he would only serve one tern when he came to the force from the OPP five years ago, told The Champion yesterday be will leave after is contract is up December 3 1. For now, he .said be will take an extended holiday witb is wife and enjoy life as much as possible. No." An internaI and extemnal search for a new chief is already underway after Chief Campbell indicated informally to the board several months ago that be didn't plan to enew is contract. Mr. Robinson said the search is cost-effec- tive, cutting straight to the chase. Advertisements to flal the position have only been placed in Canadian police publica- tions, through bulletins to other police forces and on the Haiton police web site. "We don't want to go crazy over this s0 we decided to do a limited national search," he said. "We hope we will get somne of our people interested in competing for it.
