Vandals kili1 three fish neighbourhood enjoyed By KAREN SMITH The Champion1 Vandals who killed three pet goldfish have ruined the enjoyment of a fish pond for a family and area resi-1 dents, says a McNabb Crescent woman. An upset ienny Hill told The Champion Tuesday that1 five of her six three-year-old fish were removed froro ber front lawn pond last week. Three were found dead - one left in a walkway near ber home, one beside her pool and another in her mail- box. Two others were discovered swimming in her backyard pool, which luckily hadn't been chlorinated. "It was enjoyable for a lot of people to walk by and look at the fîsh, but we cant keep thero outside any- more," she said. "We are angry to, think that someone came onto our property and basically killed three of our pets." Firecracker in pond Ms Hill and her busband Greg retumed to their eight- year home from a short vacation July 7 and discovered one of their six goldfish was missing. The fish was nowhere in sight, but a firecracker was found floating in the pond. Two days later, the couple noticed only one fish was in the pond, and after a search of their property, found the rest left throughout the property. The pond's filter bag was discovered beside the pool, while a neighbour sad he had previously noticed water plants on the couple's walkway and retumed themn to the pond. The two goldtish found swimming in the pool and the one remaining in the pond will now be kept safe in the couple's house, she said. "It's disturbing to me to tbink there's 50 little respect for people's property, not to mention thel fish," Ms Hill said. It was such a senseless act of vnaim Reaching out to parents Ms Hill, who suspects the culprits were youths, hasn't contacted t4e police about the incident, but said she hopes talking about il publicly might prompt parents to discuss the subject of vandalism with their kids. "We simply hope that after reading this, parents may take the time to talk to their children - young and older - about the importance of respect for oth- ers and their property. "We know that most kids are good and know the difference between right and wrong, however there are those wandening late at night who are capable of this kind of misehief." The couple, who have erected a sign at their home informing neighbours about the incident, have also had bicycles stolen, Ms Hill said. "I'm fed up witb it," she said. Bored with your hairstyle?
