Halton Regional Police responded to a report of two men attempting to open cars in the parking lot ot an Ontario Street apartment building shortiy after 4:30 a.m. Police arrested a man at the scene, but another suspect fled. A 1990 Oidsmobiie was later stolen fmom a nearby apartment building, said Det Sgt Jackie Gordon. She said police believe the suspect who fied is responsibie. A 1991 Pontiac Sunbird stolen from Burlington was recovered in the area and severa] attempts had been made to steal cars at numerous Ontario Street apartmnent buildings. The I 5-yearoid aiso faces a charge o breach of probation. Two of the trio - the 14-year-oid maie and the 14-year-old femaie - are aiso charged in connection with a May 18 purse theft from a Chiids Drive home. The pair aiiegedly walked through an unlocked door of the townhouse sometime between 8:30 and 10:15 p.m. and grahbed the purse. Man punched in traffic aitercation A 58-year-oid man suffered injuries to his right eye when he was assauited during a traftic altercation Saturday momning. Police said a driver was ciosely tailing the victim's car on Main Street atl1: 15 a.m. At Main and Ontario streets, the upset victim exchanged words with the driver. During the argument, the victim was struck in the chest and face, damaging an eye. The driver then fled and the victim was treated at Milton i District Hospital, said Det. Sgt. Gordon. The two cars had both been travelling on Hwy. 401 and exited at James Snow Parkway prior to the assault. Police are investigating. Womnan assaulted A 45-year-old Milton maie faces severai charges in connection with an assault at a Wilson Drive home. A woman was hit in the chest with an ash tray and repeatedly punched over the course of Saturday evening, police said. The suspect is charged with assauit, assault with a weapon and breach of recogoizance. After a bail hearing, he was held in custody and remanded until May 25 to set a triai date. Stolen car recovered in pond A 1995 four-door white Chrysler Intrepid stolen from Hopedale Mail in Oakville Thursday turned up later in the evening at a Waiker's Line quarry. Police said the car was found after 10 p.m. in a pond on the quarrny site. These kids know pennies add up Students at Milton's three Catholic elementary sehools know the meaning of 'a penny saved is a penny eamed.' With the heip of teachers and parents, Our Lady of Victory, Hoiy Rosary and St. Peter's achool students recently coliectcd $4,900 in pennies for charity. The team effort during Lent involved a challenge between schoois, said St. Peter' s principal Peggy Piovesan. 'The challenge was first initiated last year between Our Lady of Victory and St. Peter' s," she explained. "TMis year, Holy Rosary School thought they would like to enter this friendly competi- tion." For the second year in a row, St. Peter's, the smallest of the threc schoois; emerged the winners after coilecting $2,600. Our Lady of Victory raised $1 ,200 and Holy Rosary collected $1,1 00. The funds wili go to charities supported by Holy Rosary Church. They include Missions Canada, Nutrition House in Guatemala anrd Development and Peace. The $4,900 will also help sponsor three needy Guatemalan chiu- dren.
