"I think he's going into retirement," said Mr. Robinson, referring to personal con- versations he's had with the chief. Emergency crews from the Milton and Burlington fire departments rushed to the pop- ular conservation area at about 4 p.m. after reports that a woman had fallen and hit her head. Ms Hoffman, who was on an outing with a church group, was on her way up a 20-foot rock crevice after exploring a cave when she slipped and hit her head. Earlier this month, another hiker from Sioux Lookout in northern Ontario fell from a cliff at Rattlesnake Point and was hospitalized. A few days earlier, on May 2, a 15-year-old rock climber broke his ankle after falling 15 feet to a ledge at the conserva- tion area on Appleby Line, north of Derry Road. Malboeuf says deck is stacked, quits committee By BRAD REAUME The Champion Citing petty politics and personal animosities, Councillor Rick Malboeuf has resigned from town council's interview committee. According to Mr. Malboeuf, the most qualified candidate for the new community services advisory board was denied a position "solely for petty political reasons. "It is quite evident from the results of the advisory board appointment that any candidate that comes forward to sit on any future committee, regardless of their qualifications, who receives my endorsement will not be acceptable to the majority of this council," he explained. Having lost at the interview committee level Mr. Malboeuf appealed the decision on the advisory board appointment to Milton's full council several weeks ago. Council refused to change the recommendation. The denial of the candidate he endorsed was the final straw leading up to Mr. Malboeuf's Tuesday evening resignation. A few weeks ago a similar situation with respect to a hospital board appointment caused Councillor Ron Furik to resign from the committee and left Mr. Malboeuf teetering on the brink of resig- nation. "These are decisions of council which do not represent the best interests of Milton," he said. Mr. Malboeuf explained that council reversed the interview • see LASHES on page 8 Womanfalls 20ft. at Rattlesnake Point
