Downtown jewelry stt by a smash-and-grab A thief made off with the Gold Connections front display case, but also left something of his own behind in a smash-and-grab early Wednesday morn- ing. The culprit threw a rock through the window shortly before 5:30 a.m. and made off with a quantity of jewelry, said Det. Sgt. Jackie Gordon of Halton Regional Police. However, at the scene police found a piece of jewelry believed to have been losti by the thiet during the heist. At press time, the value of the bs wasn't available, but most of the items taken were costume jewelry, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Kim Duncan at 878-5511, ext. 2417. Impaired charges A 45-year-old Beaver Court man faces impaired driving charges following a colli- sion at Commercial Street and Laurier Avenue Tuesday. The accident occurred at 8 p.m. No other information was available at press time. Car stolen, recovered A car stolen from the parking lot of North End Nissan Saturday aftemoon was recovered on Mill Street a short time later. A 1989 Chevrolet Astrovan, left at the Martin Street car dealership for servicing, was driven off at 4:15 p.m. A witness saw the theft, and police found the car within 20 minutes, said Det. Sgt. Car tire suspicious Police say thcy're treating an early Sunday momning car ire as suspicious after a ire enhancing substance was found near the scene. A 1988 Ford Mustang was gutted hy ire in a Brock Court driveway shortly before 5:30 arn. The heat also damaged an Intrepid parked nearby. Police found evidence that the ire may have been deliberately set, said Det. Sgt. Gordon. Vandals mar slides Vandals poured oil-based paint down three slides at a Laurier Avenue and Farmstead Drive playground, police said. The damage was discovered Saturday shortly after 9 ar.
