At Monday's meeting he asked fellow counicillors to reconsider pending appointments to the new Community Services Advisory Committee but was tumned down. Mr. Malboeuf said too many of the appointees reside in Nassagaweya, creating an imbalance. According to the councillor five of the committee's 1l members live in Nassagaweya and not one member among those who live in the urban core is aged between 30-50. "Five of the 11, or 45 per cent of the committee members, are from Ward 3 (Nassagaweya) but they only represent 12 per cent of the population," he told council. After the meeting Mr. Malboeuf said the appoint- ments were part of a political game designed to force him into line aend out of is chosen role as a counicil maverick. "I'm upsetting the applecart on some issues so they are out to teach me a lesson and force me to play the game," Mr. Malboeuf said. "No matter who 1 support for appointmerits or what I support in council, they vote against it. A very qualified individual Iost an appointment on a close vote, solely for political rea- sons." Mr. Mabocuf said that witbout someone between 30 and 50 years of age wbo lives in the urban cure on tbe committee tbere is no representation for tbe largest segment of ratepayers in town. I can't undeîstand bow tbe urban counicillors can accept ths sad Mr. Malboeuf, wbo is restnicted in wbat be can say on tbe issue because debate was ban- Stand-up comedy at Diana 's tavern Side-splitting hilarity will [Ii Diana's Bar and Grill tomorrow (Saturday) nigbt wben tbe Cbris and Larry Show its town. Mr. Malboeuf said it was apparent to im that mem- bership on the Community Services Advisory Committee would be much different if the selection comm-ittee had to vote in public. Tbe committee, wbicb replaces tbe leisure services advisory group and is expected te, make recommenda- tions on a wide range of municipal and community services, is made up of eigbt citizen appointees and tbree members of counicil. The committee will look at leisure services, ire pro- tection, public works and otber areas. Mr. Malboeuf said it will be "influential." Rookie Councillors Cindy Lunau and Lieven Gevaert, both representing Nassagaweya, bave been appointed to the committee along with Councillor Ron Furik. Council appointments lasIt trougha December 31, 1998, while citizen appointments are divided, witb haîf lasting througb 1998, and tbe rest maintaining their positions untîl the end of 1999. Citizen appoint- ments are made by counicil in a closed-door session. "I'd like to ask counicillors to reconsider and put aside personalities and politics and do what's best for the community," Mr. Malboeuf said. Councillor Barry Lee said that Nassagaweya repre- sentatives are as attacbed to the entire town as they are to tbe noitheru rural aiea, remninding Mr. Malboeuf that they function as Town of Milton councillois. "I don't think it'Il affect the operation of the com- mittee," be said, referiing to the two Nassagaweya counicillors wbo will serve. Mr. Lee pointed out tbat the former leisure services committee had only two counicil representatives. with a split between urban and rural interests. When tbe vote was taken only four counicillors raised their bands against a reconsideration, bowever after pmompting by Mayor Gord Krantz that the vote was being takeiû, a few more bands were raîsed and the measure lost. the Cutting Edge le17 years atAqai OPENINGDAY i TSDYMAYo, 5;jlket . ............... ~ 4. 45 .% %af444>~g* ~ -rr 15 MARTIN ST.
