Peewees out of the playoffs The AAA minor peewees' offence took a premature spring break recently in South Central Region playoff action. Halton managed just seven goals in four round-robin games and as a result failed to qualify for the OMUA finals. Their only non-loss of the postseason came in a 3-3 draw with Brampton - thanks largely to Danny Powers' two-goal output. The Hurricanes opened playoff action against Brampton and were blanked 3-0. Representing the Milton Springers, she captured a handtul of tirst-place finishes in Guelph at the third and final Central Region Provincial Qualifying Meet. Her gold medal haul in the Novice I division featured triumphs in aIl four events - bars, beam, fluor routine and vault - as well as in the al-around standing. This secured ber a berth at next month' s Al-Ontario championship where shelI be ranked second in a highly competitive field. Hindered by a recent injury 40 Novice 1 participant Kristen Deumer was unable te, complete her floor routine but did pull off a fifth- place showing on vault. Christina Shipowick also took - fifth on vault while adding sixth- place honors in beam and loor. Amy Williams reached the podi- Ashley Quinn um with a bronze medal perfor- mance on floor in the Novice 1 B class. A fourth on vault and fifth on bars eamned ber lourth place overaîl. Eleven-year-old Valerie Masse] made two trips to the podium herself - with third-place efforts on bars and beam. She placed fourth overaîl in the Pre-Junior I A loop. Members of the junior teamn rallied together and pulled off their best showing of the season. Leading the charge with silver medal inishes on beam and bars was I 3-year-old Alicia Robinson - who took fourth overaîl and eamed altemnate status for the provincials. Alexis Stoffels, 12, beat aIl challengers in Junior lB beam. She added to, this victory with a silver on tinor and sixth on bars for fourth in the all-around. Age-class teammate Christine Chadwick tumred in a no-faîl effort on beam for the sil ver medal. Her bar routine, second best as well, brought ber back to the podium. Vieki Chliszczyk also eamned alternate status f'or the provincial s with a seventh-place overaîl finish in the Open 2 category. She did su on the strength of fourth-place efforts on bars and floor. jNatasha Brancier gained top honours in the all-around Cadette A division at the recent Winterfest Meet in Georgetown. She received top marks for dynamic vaulting, silver in beam. bronze on fluor and fourth on bars. 1
