Eventually a frustrated Councillor Barry Lee causti- cally suggested counicil be reduced to tbree members. Following that lead, Mayor Gord Krantz countered by saying perhaps tbere should only be one member of' council, im. Mr. Lee topped that by airing the idea of scrapping Milton counicil to bave the tnunicipality nterge wtth Halton Hilîs. Motions for a public tmeeting and for a committee and survey approacb to the downsizing question were both defeated. Those wanting a reduced counicil were accused of subverting democracy. while tbose looking to main- tain the status quo were berated for hypocrisy. In the end tbe debate was deferred to, April 6. Several councillors suggested the only reason f'or a reduction would be the potential savings. "If it's money thats behind this, you can bave it al if you need it al," said an angry Councillor John Challinor. "I'm flot bere for the money; nobody is. If if is about democracy and representation. there is no issue."
