Any and ail of these virtues can be used to describe any and ail of this year's Milton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year nominees. Throw in teamwork and you've got Judy and Bob Wallace, who could become the tirst couple te, win the coveted award. Married 27 years, they've co-chaired the United Way fundraising campaign the last two years - -which have been the two most successful in the local chapter's history with a whopping $237,000 and $240,000 in annuai donations. "I'd say our time with the United Way has been the most satisfying (of ail our volunteer work)," said Mr. Wallace. "We' ve had our own separate projecta over the years, but mostly we've tried to find interests we could share, which has been nice." Described as 'model citizens' by their nominator, the Wallaces have held varlous other positions with the United Way. Before that, they spent years volun- teering with the Boy Scouts of Canada, while Ms Wallace aiso donated her time at the elementary school level. She said news of their nomination came as an incredible surprise, adding "I didn't believe it when Ries Boers told me so I joked along with him until the seriousness of it started sinking in. "What a high. You don't expect people to remember ail the work you've donc over the years, but 1 gus they do." Aiso up for Citizen of the Year is another United Way heavyweîght, Brad Clements. Writes his nominator, "After leaving politics, many would disappear into the woodwork. Brad did not. He maintained a heavy involvement with organizations including the Steamn (Era) Show and Milton Community and Information Services. "His experience and wisdom have successluliy kept many projects on track in difficuit times." In recent years, the former town and regional coun- cillor has aggressively campaigned in support of the United Way. Hes also had a hand in the Antique Preservers Association, Christmas Tree Growers Association of Ontario, Milton Historical Society and heiped form the new Milton Community Resource Centre.
