Milton sweeps as Raiders can't hang on in tough series By STEVE LeBLANC Special to The Champion Milton's single A major novices brought out the brooms and swept asîde their tirst-round OMHA playoff opponents Saturday aftemnoon. The Karmax-sponsored crew polished off the Georgetown Raiders with an edge-of-your-seat 4-3 victory - their second one-point decision in a week. They tumed back Georgetown's challenge in a minimum thre games. Blaké Frittenburg provided the heroics, sinking the game win- ner with less than two minutes remaining. A regular contributor throughout round one, the first-Iine centre was stopped on his initial breakaway shot but stayed with the play and tinally squeezed one under goalie Cameron Noble's right pad. Assisting on the go-ahead goal was defenceman Kyle Walker. The Raiders - who put a litile more into gamne three in an attempt to stave off elimination - had some quality chances at a last-minute equalizer. However they were stymied by two-way spark plug Jeremy Martin and cager Paul Herder, who was tested right up until the last nine seconds of play. He stopped a total of 23 shots on the aftemoon. Providing key defensive help were David Gooding, Alex Marshall and Graham Sharp. Georgetown enjoyed a brief lead, their fOrst of the series, before the Winterhawks unloaded with three goals in the middle trame. Martin one-timed a shot through Noble's tive-hole to kick-start the offence while Daniel Lafontaine and Craig Howse followed up with scores less than five minutes later. Howse's tally came in the last 30 seconds of the period. Gooding, Howse, Sharp and Justin Moir acted as set-up men. Jesse Swain proved to be a major thorn in Milton's side Saturday. The right Winger posted a goal and an assist to erase two of the three leads the 'Hawks would enjoy. At press time, coach Grant Gooding was unsure who his 'Hawks would face in round two. M .A.
