Darlene Wasilkowsky. gen- eral manager ut the Downtown Business limprovemnent Arca (DBIA), explained the trend away tromn retail to rmembers of municipal council durtng thc preset1tation ut' the DB/A's annual report. Council agreed to a sugges- tion by Couneillor Ron Furik, for a staff investigation of the trend and a report on potential ways to assist the DBIA in pro- moting downtown business. Ms Wasilkowsky said some businesses are leaving, some have lost the hattie to remain in business while others have simply given up and are clos- ing. She said she has hiad discus- sions with Milton Chamber of' Commerce officiais and there is some support for trying a tourism oriented approach to Darlene Wasilkowsky bringing dollars into the down- town. She said promotion ut' Milton as *Escarpment Country' s being considered. She added there is an interest in expanding the area covered by the DB/A. Mayor Gord Krantz said such a mecasure would require a substantial public proeess, but dues bave some menit. Councillor Brian Penman agreed that a fresh look at the DBIA is sound.
