Milton representative Tim Kingsbury stated his intention at a recent regular board meeting to once again ask the board to pay the legal expenses of the trustees who were involved in a civil court case earlier this year. At the December 1l board gathering- the final meeting for current trustees before the new district school board begins operation on January 1, 1998 - Mr. Kingsbury was to ask the board to ante up 80 per cent of the fees billed to trustees Linda Glover, Joe Pavelka, Ethel Gardiner, Penny Siebert and Milton's Fbo Belford. 'Me five were billed $6,919.25 each by their lawyers in defence of cha rges of con- fluet of interest levied by a member of Taxpayers Coalition Burlington. The case was withdrawn in the spring at the consent of both parties. At the November 13 board meeting trustees voted unanimously to purchase up to $100,000 of conflict of interest coverage for each member of the board at a premi- um cost of $75 per trustee. Mr. Kingsbury ia able to revisit the issue due to a change in the wording of his motion. His request for full compensation was 1 lm rIngsoury defeated 7-4 (the five trustees in question didn't vote) at the August 28 board meet- ing. ibis time around he's asking for 80 per cent reimbursement based on two factors: The board has an opinion from an insur- ance carrier that it would have paid up to 90 per cent of ail trustees' legal costs under the circumatances And Mr. Kingsbury has raised 10 per cent of the total bill through a public defence fund he established a( the start of the year. "I felt a change of heart in the matter Ilin 1102thari xxnc tilce" sad Mr. Kingsbury, who ncvcrthclcss knows his lateat requeat ia no slam dunk.
