The Canadian Champion, Fniday, October 17, 1997-21 Halton regrional meeting schedule is revamped By BRAD REAUME The Champion Halton Region is making some internai changes ta help accommodate the move ta more fuiltime politicians. Currently Halton Region operates on a two- week cycle, with committee meetings in the first week followed by a council meeting in the sec- -ond. # The administration and finance committee agreed ta try a three-week cycle beginning in January, with an off week scheduled between each two-w 'eek cycle. The change is ta give counicillors more time in their wards, and doing other business. According ta Joan Eaglesham, Halton Region's clerk, counicillors from Burlington ini- tiated the change because they will be serving in a largely fulîtime capacity after the November municipal election, thanks in large part ta a shrunken Burlington council. Halton Huis council has also endorsed Use plan but Oakville has decided not ta move their schedule into alignment. Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale said the pace of growth in Oakville requires more meetings ta properly serve the cornmunity. It was generally acknowledged that with less frequency meetings will tend ta be longer. Several counicillors spoke favourably of having ail meetings begin at 9 arn. Now some stant in mid-momning, others in the aftemoon. 365 DAYS AYEAR $O SMARTLEASE DOWN I>AYM[N'T"' GMC REGULAR CAB 2WD cornes with a 200 HP Vortec 4300 V6 engine, 4-speed automatie transmission with overdrive, dual air baga, PASSLockm security system, 4-wheel ABS, two-tier cargo box loading, chrome wheels, air conditioning and a deluxe chrome grille. $21,399t The Bible its message opened up ini an hour!
