Magna looking at a local expansion By BRAD REAUME The Champion Auto parts manufacturer Magna International bas taken a step towards construction of a new manufacturing facility in Milton. Monday night at Town Hall Magna requested a zoning amend- ment for 50 acres of property they recently purchased-on Esquesing Line, formerly Fourth Line, north of Highway 401. Mike Everard, Magna's director of land development, said bis company is simply preparing the property for future develop- mient. He would not comment on the timing of any construction noir its potential size. Mr. Everard said the site would be used for manufactuning. At one time there was somne speculation Magna would construct a company headquarters on the property. Anne Bouck, Milton's senior planiner, said the site plan indi- cates a large industrial building with construction taking place in several phases, eventually covening most of the pmoperty. Councillor Rick Day wanted more detail on the scope of any future project bot it was not available. Mayor Gord Krantz said Magna is already the largest single employer in Milton through its operations at Karmax Heavy Stamping. TMe initiative is at its early stages. Milton's planning depart- ment will present a full technical report later regarding; the request for a zoning amendment. uOvfRwnïnT?
