Banrk Croup r$t As part of the mandate of the Chamber, we endeavour to, fulfill & M our mission by providing leadership in promoting the weIl being of the business community of Milton. While the majority of our efforts can be seen immedi- ately, tome of the work of the Chamber is very futur- istic and the direct benefit, like a good investment is not seen until some time into the future. Through the scholarsbip cafe at the Farmers' Market, a fund bas been established Bu provide schol- arships to graduating high scbool students who excel in entrepreneurial studies or other business courses. Congratulations to, Cheryl Baratto, who was recently awarded une of the three scbolarships at the gradua- tion ceremonies at Bishop Reding Secondary School. One other way tbat the Chamber supports the future business community of Milton is tbrough its long standing relationship with Junior Achievement. Junior Achievemnent of Milton's mission is to, inspire and educate our youth to, value free enterprise, under- stand business and economics and develop entrepre- neurial and leadership skills. It is this mission tbat bopefully will assist in turning today's young students into tomorrows responsible citizens, educated con- sumers and future business and community leaders. The Chamber bas been involved with Junior Achievement since its inception on 1986. The demand for the programs being offered by Junior Achievement is at an unparalleled high. Three years ago, approximately thirty students were fortunate enough to, be reached by a Junior Achievement pro- gram in Milton . This past school year, more than 700 students had the opportunity to participate in a Junior Achievement program. Projections for this scbool year, based on demand, would easily exceed 1,000 students. This phenomenal growth has placed a significant strain on Junior Achievement. The only obstacle in the way of reaching out to satisfy thse cur- rent growing demand is lack of business consultants and business advisors to deliver thse programs. The cornerstone of Junior Achievement concept is to bring the business community and the students together to talk about and learn about business concepts. Junior Achievement bas an immediate need for individuals that would enjoy working with students from grades eight through OAC. Many Junior Achievement organizations are used by employers as a way to, groom junior executives' presentation skills whille promoting their business within the community and giving valuable business educational feedback to, the students. Other individu- aIs wbo are involved with Junior Achievement simply have an entrepreneurial flair and want to share this spirit with the students and give something back to the community that supports their present business endeavours. Regardless of what type of individual you may be, if you have a passion for business and would like to share your passion with our future busi- ness leaders, cali Junior Achievement at 878-5029 to, discuss with them what your involvemnent could mean to thse future of their students.
