If the proposali o approvedi by the Canadian Radio, Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) then Milton residents in exchanges 878, 876. 875, 693 and 691 will be able to caîl exchanges in Malton, Streetsville and Toronto. According to Bell representative Gord Jackson, Milton residenîs now have acceos to about 200,000 local mies in Burlinglon, Oakville, Campbellville, Aclon and Georgetown. Any new local exchanges would be in addition to Milton's current local calling area. he said. The areas which would be added have about 1.9 million telephone lines. Mr. Jackson said under the plan areas such as Brampton and Port Credit, the southern section of Mississauga, will nol be in the local calling area. He said the cost of basic service is lied to the number of lelephone mies which are accessible as local calîs. "Cross-oubsidization of' phone rates is no longer an issue," Mr. Jackson said. "Pricing is now based on what il actually costs 10 service an area."
