The 38-year-old astronaut - who flew aboard the space shuttle Atlantis ta the Russian space station Mir - said he was taught ta tly gliders and gained self-discipline with the 820 Milton Blue Thunder Air Cadets. "I flew the space shuttle (Atiantis) exactly aver the spot where 1 leamned tai tly gliders in tawn 22 years carlier," said Lieutenant-Colonel Hadlield, a fsve-year member af the local air cadets. 'The air cadets taught me to ignare the problems af today and ta focus on solutions, in pursuit af my goals for the future. The things I learned back themr gave me the ability ta do the things I'm allowed ta do naw." "It's a great honaur ta win this award. Lieutenant-Colonel Hadfield is certainly a great raIe model for us here," LAC Burgess explained.
