The Principal/Community Leader for a Day program was established with the fol- lowing objectives. " Share ideas and develop linkages between school and community " Heighten community awareness of the diversity of talent in our students (our future leaders) " Create opportunities for building strong relationships and partnerships between the community and the education systemn * Share ideas on leadership, management techniques and effectiveness of organiza- tions My participationl in this program was a thor- oughly rewarding experience. This exchange helped me to gain some insight into what our schools are really like today and to identify with what takes place in the course of a typical day. It seems ail too easy these days to join the crowd and he critical of our education system. This program is an excellent opportunity for community leaders to become more aware of the strengths of our educational systemri and the challenges it faces. Our students are tomor- row's future. Rather than just being critical, we should take ever opportunity te, attempt to understand and improve our educational system for the benefit of our students and our future. The role of education in our society today is s0 critical that there rnay not be a single right answer as to how it should be done. 1 believe that an openness to new ideas will be essential if we are 10 find the "best" answers. This pro- gram certainly facilitates the ability to explore these new ideas and 10 determine their applica- bîlity in a school setting. If the program is offered again next year, I would suggest that you may want to consider participating. I would like t0 thank Mrs. Linda Rafuse and the staff and students of E.W. Foster School for allowing me into their school. I was particular- ly impressed with the spirit of the school and the friendly atmosphere. Both staff and stu- dents were open and willing to share their opin- ions and concerns about the school systemn with me. Their feedback and comments were very useful in helping me to challenge my opinions on our education system.
