Sam Carfrae scored twice and Bayley McLaughlin also tallied in the championship game for the Black Magic. Michelle Boratko and Maddie Broad replied for the Hot Wheels. The Black Magic won the tournament title despite suffering a 1-0 loss to Burlington One Direction in its first game. Black Magic defeated Burlington Wild Ones 5-0 and Hamilton Hawks 3-0 in its next two contests, securing a spot in the final by half a point. Hot Wheels was undefeated in its first three games to earn the other spot in the final. Other members of the Black Magic team are Shelby McKerrow, Lauren Tracy, Abbey Coulter, Gennie Cloutier, Alina Jandu, Julia Sinopoli, Debbie Viitre, Rachel Zeliznak, Heather Fletcher, Zoya Lehman, Cecilia Lomonaco, Athena Soutos and Kathryn Austin. Halton relegated to consolation final at Spectator all-star basketball tournament Halton had to settle for playing in the consolation final as the 24th annual Hamilton Spectator high school senior boys all-star basketball tournament wrapped up last night (Wednesday). The Halton all-stars dropped an 86-81 decision to their Hamilton Public counterparts on Tuesday. Hamilton Catholic followed that by whipping Brant/Norfolk 70-43 in the second game of the evening, led by Bishop Tonnos's Anthony Mercanti with 10 points. The two winners met for the title last night after Post deadlines as did Halton and Brant/ Norfolk in the consolation final. Both games were held at Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School in Stoney Creek. Jake Babic of Oakville Loyola led Halton in a losing cause against Hamilton Public, scoring 25 points. James Miles of Westmount paced the winners with 28 points. The Oakville midget DS Hornets went unbeaten this season.| photo submitted Midget DS Hornets cap undefeated season Oakville's first-ever midget developmental stream girls' hockey team has set the bar high for future editions of the squad. The Hornets team recently capped an undefeated season by winning the Leaside March Madness Tournament. Oakville blanked all four opponents it played at the tournament, including a 2-0 win over the Clarington Flames in the final, while scoring 16 goals of its own. Paige Saunders recorded the four straight shutouts for Oakville, which went 12-0-3 this season and also won the Mississauga Christmas tournament. The Hornets outscored their opponents 54-8 on the year. Other members of the team are Stephanie Bell, Kate Barkley, Victoria Albertine, Bailey Dean, Sarah Kozma, Magen Stretton, Annie Nasato, Rebecca Palmer-Vida, Cassidy Feeney, Sam Cussen, Jamie Godber, Erin Federovich, Erika Reynolds, Elizabeth O'Hara and Sera Smith. Linda Nasato, Elmo Nasato, Bert Barkley and Allison Kula coach the team. Linda Nasato is also the team's trainer, and Janet Godber is the manager. Development stream is a new concept for the Ontario Women's Hockey Association. The program, in its second year of existence, is intended to give house league players the opportunity to compete at a higher level. This was the first season Oakville iced a midget DS team.
