Oakville residents spend more time commuting than residents in other communities across Ontario. Sixty-three percent of Oakville residents commute compared to the provincial average of 35 per cent. This is valuable time Oakville residents must spend away from their families. Oakville businesses contribute to the local tax base, support local arts, recreation and charities. The OABE recognize the important contribution local businesses make to our outstanding quality of life. The Oakville Awards for Business Excellence (OABE) is a program of the Rotary Club of Oakville West(RCOW) and the Oakville Chamber of Commerce to build awareness of business excellence within our great community and at the same time raise funds to support RCOW youth initiatives in Oakville. Proceeds generated through spon- In 2012, a record setting 40 awards were presented to deserving students through the Rotary Education Awards. sorships, ticket sales and on-site raffle at the OABE annually support important local Rotary-led youth programs in particular the Rotary Education Awards. In 2012 a record 40 awards were distributed to deserving high school students by the three Rotary Clubs in Oakville. It was the most awards ever granted in Rotary West's history of assisting youth with their postsecondary goals. RCOW founded the OABE 18 years ago specifically to help fund this annual youth program.
