FENCES . . . have taken on a decorative function now aitfiough historically they were to contain domnesfic animnais or define iand holdings. Strung wire fences foiiowed the stump fences and the stone fences that were buiit tram handiiy-avaiîabîe materiais for the pioneers. There are stiii a few stump and stone tences but new materiais and new designs are evident some iess sturdy but more decoratîve.
