MacCaskill, who has held a number of different roles at Halton Region over the last 25 years, has been appointed Halton's new chief administration officer (CAO). Regional council unanimously endorsed the recommendation made by a CAO selection committee today (Feb. 6) in Council Chambers. Regional Chair Gary Carr once again thanked former CAO Pat Moyle for his work, as well as Dr. Bob Nosal for filling in the role while a new CAO was being selected. He and other councillors welcomed MacCaskill into her role with a round of applause. "Jane has an impressive background and expertise in Halton Region," said Carr. "Her sound financial and fiscal Jane MacCaskill accountability and strong leadership prove that Jane is the ideal candidate to continue to keep Halton a strong and prosperous region. He continued, "I am looking forward to working with Jane in her new capacity and know she will do an excellent job to ensure Halton remains a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire." MacCaskill, who previously held the position of commissioner of corporate services and Regional treasurer for 12 years, will assume her new responsibilities immediately. "I am pleased and honoured to be given this opportunity," said MacCaskill. "I look forward, in this new role to continuing to work with Chair Carr and Regional Council and my colleagues to deliver on their and the community's priorities for Halton Region." MacCaskill has also served as general manager and chief financial officer for the Halton Housing Corporation over her 25-year career at the Region. She's a chartered accountant and a graduate of the University of Waterloo. She also earned an MBA from Queen's University. Black History Month to kick off with concert at Oakville Town Hall Oakville residents can enjoy an evening of amazing music and great art by attending the Black History Month Kick-Off Concert, which will take place at Oakville Town Hall today (Thursday). The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton has partnered with the Oakville Museum to present an event celebrating black culture in the community through the art forms of music, dance, visual arts, film and storytelling. The event will feature one-woman play A New Hope by singer, actor, writer and host Shelley Hamilton. The play is based on the historical accounts of John Clarkson's 1791 mission to improve the conditions of the black loyalists in Nova Scotia and to promote the colonization of Sierra Leone.
