HAPPY FROM 15 · Friday, December 21, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com HOLIDAYS! Thank you Halton Businesses! Cross-Connection Control By-law (Backflow Prevention) Halton Region would like to thank the 3,718 Halton businesses that are in full compliance with the Cross-Connection Control by-law. This important by-law works to protect our water system and prevent any potentially contaminated water from flowing in the opposite direction or "backflow" from private plumbing systems into our municipal water system. Under the Province of Ontario's Safe Drinking Water Act, it is the legal responsibility of Halton Region and all private property owners, to protect the water distribution system. Halton's Cross-Connection Control by-law requires that all business organizations from the industrial, commercial and institutional sector (ICI) and multi-residential buildings have a backflow prevention device installed. Providing safe, quality drinking water is a vitally important service provided by Halton Region to ensure that our municipal water system meets or exceeds Provincial standards. Visit www.halton.ca/backflow to learn more about backflow prevention and the steps to achieve compliance with the Cross-Connection Control by-law.
