www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, December 14, 2012 · 24 Calendar sales help support humane society's work The Oakville and Milton Humane Society has released its 2013 Take Me Home calendar, featuring 12 of its cutest shelter animals -- some of which have already found their `forever' home. "This is the calendar we wanted to do last year," Brenda Dushko, OMHS spokesperson, said in press release. "Unfortunately, the day we had scheduled photography was the day we closed the shelter to battle a ringworm outbreak, so we used some of our volunteer's pets and dogs that had been photographed at a fundraiser held by calendar photographer Eva Mendes-Gibson, earlier in the year." The shelter has since been reopened to the public. At a cost of $10, the calendar features a variety of dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and small pets. All proceeds from the sale of the calendars will go towards helping kittens like Tansley -- the cover cat was found as a tiny kitten with a badly broken leg and eyes so diseased they had to be removed. The calendars are available at OHMS, at 445 Cornwall Rd., as well as at pet supply stores, veterinary clinics and dog groomers throughout Oakville and Milton. Visit www.omhs.ca for more. Cross-Connection Control By-law (Backflow Prevention) Halton Region would like to thank the 3,718 Halton businesses that are in full compliance with the Cross-Connection Control by-law. This important by-law works to protect our water system and prevent any potentially contaminated water from flowing in the opposite direction or "backflow" from private plumbing systems into our municipal water system. Under the Province of Ontario's Safe Drinking Water Act, it is the legal responsibility of Halton Region and all private property owners, to protect the water distribution system. Halton's Cross-Connection Control by-law requires that all business organizations from the industrial, commercial and institutional sector (ICI) and multi-residential buildings have a backflow prevention device installed. Providing safe, quality drinking water is a vitally important service provided by Halton Region to ensure that our municipal water system meets or exceeds Provincial standards. Visit www.halton.ca/backflow to learn more about backflow prevention and the steps to achieve compliance with the Cross-Connection Control by-law.
