Whitby Trustee Chuck Roche moved that the working drawings for the one-storey plan, approved in principle November 3, be halted while the architect, William Saccoccio, in- vestigate plans for a two- storey design. In that way Roche argued heating cost would 1be cut down with a two-storey building and the maintenan- ce departinent could be built in the basement of the com- plex rather than in a dif- ferent building as is now proposed. The motion was defeated 9 to 6 in a recorded vote. "The Durham Board of Education offices are two- storey and the houses in the area are two-storey so a two- storey administration office would fit in," argued Roche. Ivan Wallace, chairman of a special committee dealing Learn- to-swim The Durham Region Roman Catholic Separate School Board will spend $6,612 for a learn-to-swim program. The program was first started in 1973 and teaches grade 5 pupils how to swim. The course is taught in 10 lessons of 45 minutes each by a qualified instructor. with the building said that a two-storey building would not save any money for heating because it would have the same number of walls facing the exterior as a Chuck Roche one-storey building would. He said that putting main- tenance in the basement would require special fire safety and noise-proofing steps. Those voting to draw up new plans were Whitby trustees Roche, Andy Miller, Martin Doleweer, Oshawa Trustees Terry Lynch andf Tom Simmons and Larry O'Leary of Pickering. Voting against were Joey Corey, Tia Woodcroft, Ted Marks, Bernard Canning and Wallace of Oshawa, Hans Van Leeuwen and An- r, na Crosthwaite of Pickering and Sally Longo and Kate Hudson of Ajax. Emm wants trees Disease, storms and developments has drastically reduced the number of trees in Whitbv over the past few years and Councillor Gerry Emm wan- ts to bring them back. Emm asked council to im- plement a program by which trees would be put back in the older sections of town which are now suffering from a deficiency. Mayor Bob Attersley reminded Emm that council had cancelled a similar policy several years ago because of budget restric- tions. Attersley said that the matter would be brought up during 1981 buget meetings. 1977 LTD1Il 2 door, 302, V-8, PIS, PIB, auto, 2 tone paint with landau vinyl roof, excellent condition.
