GREENAWAY Free Press Staff Henry Street High Sehool students had a lot to cheer about lasV week when the schools junior and senior football teams defeated An- derson Collegiate and Vocational Institute eams. The seniors game, and the highlight of the afternoons games was for -the Mayors Cup, a rivalry which started nine years ago. Henry won the Mayor's Cup for the fifth time in mhose nine years defeating Anderson 18-14 in what ur- ned out o be a very close game. Henry got on the score board first early in the first quarter and led 18 to 0 at the hall. The second haîf of play saw Andersons offense start Vo move the bahl, capitalizing on Vwo touch- downs. "In mhe second hall wt- ook a lot of penalties whici. stopped two scoring drives and Anderson went Vo the air," said Henry coach Pat Pucknell. But it was o be oo littie Vo late for Anderson. John Paul AggetV, scored a ouchdown and a Vwo point conversion for Henry while teamnmate Peter Sirko ad- ded another TD. Greg Bor- chuck 83, rounded the total out at 18 wimh a field goal. Anderson scores were Dan Garrard with a touchdown, Bill Eyre with anomher TD and Tony Pittens running inr a 2 point conversion. "IV always feels good Vo win the Mayor's Cup because there is such a strong rivalry between the two schools, " said Pucknall. "IV really does a lot for school spiritV," This win gave the seniors their second victory in as many outings this season. Pucknell attributes much of the teams strenght to his offensive squad. Aggett and Sirko, tow of Henry's run- ning backs played a great game in bis estimation. 'II thinkc they are going Vo be the two fastest running backs inthe league this year."t Pucknall who is in his fourth year as Henry coach was proud of his entire team last week. 1 IWe're very pleased with the stage we're at at this point early in the season, pleased with the two wins and it's really pulled the team ogether. " He said that league itself is improving and warns fans that hey wiil be in for somne 'dexcellent bal" this yeat'. "School spirit at Henry is very hlgh. " "Wben you've heen in the playoffs for the last three years in a row students start looking forward to the foot- ball season. " The juniors game went equally as* well, seeing Henry defeat Anderson 26- 14. Steve Greening, Henry's junior coach attributes the win again to a strong offen- sive line. Anderson opened the scoring with a ouchdown on their first drive of the game. Henry returned the favour when hey ran the bahl back down the field on the next series of plays. "We made a few adjust- ments on defence and at haif time we were ahead 19-6. " Kelly Dzikewich, 21, scored hree TD's for Henry while Steve Blackburn 18, added the final six points. For the first time the WF. SCare offering an adult group class which will give lessons in the basics of figure skating. "lWe are looking for people Vo join up with us in this new venture," said Donna Stel 0f the WFSC. The aduit classes com- mence October 22 at 1 pa. and run every WednesdaY until 3:30 p.m. The first- hour of the classes are dedicated Vo in- struction on the basics of skating and dance. The second hour wiil be spent trying o put together a precision eam 0of skaters Vo compete in an International Precision Competition Vo be held at the Iroquois Park Arean in February. "This competition will be a first for us in mhis area," said Steil. She estimates mhat close o 800 skaters fromn Quebec, Ontario and mhe Unted States wil compete. Regular class lessons will begin on October 20 and Oc- tober 25.
