About 40 peattended and there were 116 entries. President Valerie Hundert opened the meeting and welcomed everynne in- cluding a new member from Oshawa. She then spoke on- the art gallery at the Whitby Station and on October 5 this Brooklin society will dedicate three trees to the gallery. Members from this society will also assist in the planting of gardens at the Whitby Arts Station as well as the Whitby Public Library. The president also asked for help in cleaning up the various civic plantings and pruning shrubs. Margaret Beath then read the correspondence and also reported on her visit to the Trenton Horticultural Society's first flower show held on September 18, at which time, she presented a book to their library on behaîf of the Brooklin Hor- ticultural Society. Margaret Davis then gave the treasurer's report followed by Carolyn Stevens who advised that we now have a membership of 153. Mary Housego announced that over 600 pies were sold in order to assist the Myrtle Church in installing a new floor. Carolyn Stevens in- troduced the speaker for the evening, John Lloyd of Lloyd's Greenhouses and Nusery, Hampton. He showed sldes of a driving trip he. undertook to Alaska and the Yukon. These were interesting as well as beautiful and the vastness of John Wayne mini festival this part of North America was well illustrated. Lloyd also spoke on propogating munis and demonstrated a thorough knowledge of bis subject. John Jefferies thanked the speaker. Judge for the show was Dorothy Sandford, who'gave some very helpful hints on flower arrangements and specimens for show, com- plimenting everyone on their entries in spite of the inclement weather. . Audrey Young then gave the show resuits. Best specimen award, donated by the John Brouwer Nursery in the form a euonynîous shrub was won by Dorothy Barter of Whitby and this deserving lady also received the best decorative award, donated by Simpsons-Sears. A special award was given for a dried mini- arrangement and won by Margaret Powell of Colum- bus. Lyla Allan, our resident photographer, took pictures. The next meeting will be Kiwants executive KIwanis International swore lni the new members of the 1980-81 executive last week at a speclal dinner. The first show will be on October 10 and will feature -stagecoach," which gave Wayne his first starring nole. On October 17, the featune will be Rio Grande, another nough-and-tough western. Finally on Octoben 24, the librany will present "The Quiet Man" which not ontly stars Wayne but his Most famous leading lady, Maureen O'Hana.
