A later vote was taken, but as I sta ted, I dld not at- tend that particuair meeting. However, the municipal transit system Is not the issue. Lack of hlgh school transportation la the real problem. To ex- pect the higb achool students to finance a municipal system they did flot need, is ludlcious. Whitby Theatre Company Pre-Season show - The Whitby Theatre Company is presen- ting a lively musical comedy '40 's radio Hour' from September 22 to 27, at the Centenniai Building. High School Bus Transportation High school students are stili without adequate bus tran- sportation. The town bus system la not the answer to the problem. At the last Corridor Ratepayers excecutive meeting, area residents attended and outlined many of their concerna. It was decided to hold a general public meeting within the next two to three weeks to obtain the public's views. More details as to the time and place of the meeting will be available next week. RE: Editors Note Last week, an enlightening editor's note appeared at the bot- tom of the Capers Coiumn. The portion of the article to which the editor's note refera is:- "Towns fathers in their wisdom, have created a monstrous probiem. We can ail thank coun- cillora Bugelli, Attersiey, Drumm and Evans, proponents of the municipal system, for our chiidren's deillema. " No where in the column, did it state who did, or did not vote for the impiementatiori of a public transit system. Many of the Council meetings I attended, but I was not present when the final vote was taken, hence - no reference. I was, however, present at the Council meeting when Regional Councillor Gerry Emm cast a fifth vote to determine the cost of a BARRY EVANS Gerry Emm defended Bell. He said that Bell is "Doing alot for this country." Marline Veater, district manager for Bell said that a feasibility study la belng done. The resuits of that study should be resdy by the end of the year. McDonald's MD carnival a success The Whitby outiet of Mc- Donald's Family Restauran- ts with assistance from members of the Whitby Fire Department held .a muscular dystrophy car- nival on the Labor Day weekend. A total of $327.59 was received by the fire depar- tment on behaîf of the Mc- Donaid's staff. This money will be forwarded to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada. JenkIns, Chief of Police Whitby Town Council la once again trying to per- suade Ma Bell to include the 'area east of Thickson Road in it's yellow pages. People who now live in that ares are receiving a phone book with listing for Oshawa, Biackstock and Port Perry in it's yellow pages and none for Whitby. Centre Ward Councillor Barry Evans calied the overlooking of the eastern 10 per cent of the town ar- bitrary and unfair to Whitby businesses. Bell's cdaim that Whitby businesses must advertise in Oshawa yellow pages in un- true, said Evans. "If we aiiow this we might as well allow Oshawa to an- nex that part of town,11 said Evans. His motion for couhcil to approach Bell- received unanimous support froni council, although councillor 1
