The popularity of this show was evidenced in the 196 entries. President Valerie Hundert ôpened the show and welcomred members and guests fromn Oshawa, Whit- by, Port Elgin and the Gateway to the West, Win- nipeg. She thanked ail who assisted at the County Town Carnival, including those who helped with the Brooklin Horticultural Society's float which in- cidentally, won the trophy for "Best Float fromn an Organization". She also an- nounced that the Oshawa Garden Centre will give a 10 per cent discount card to al members who present their membership card at time of purchase. Margaret Davis then gave the treasurer's report followed* by Carolyn Stevens who advised that there are now 151 members in the society. Ken Brown, with his usual dry wit, conducted a hor- ticuitural quiz on annuals. Joan Brak then introduced the speaker of the evening, Beverly Brook from the On- tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food at Newmarket. This young lady was amusing and informative and with the aid of slides made her chosen subjeet, "freezing and storing of vegetables", sound like an easy task. Donna Geisherger thanked the speaker. Audrey Young then an- nounced the show results. The Drize of best specimen, donated by the Brooklin Bulleting was won by. Lloyd Johnston of Oshawa, for his beautiful Dahlia. The aWard for best gladiolus, donated by Rennie's Florist, was won by Alice Dodd, of Port* Perry; and the prize for best novice arrangement was donated by Ann Carson of the Elizabeth Arden Cor- poration and was won by Allan-Downey of Whitby. Our own talented Joan Brak won the best decorative award, a silver trya donated by the Brooklin Horticultural Society, as well as a prize for the best micro-mini arrangement, donnted v hiort's Phar- macy. The two silver trays donated by the Brooklin Horticultural Society and won at the County Town -Carnival for best specimen ànd best decorative, were- tpresented to Lloyd Johnston and Doris Marlow -respec- tively. The judge for the Annuals Show, was Ethel Benson of Scarborough and the society wishes to thank her for a fine job. The next show wilI be held on September 24 and will feature chrysanthemums. It will be the last opportunity to show off the results of summfer gardening efforts and the society hopes to see you then. Back to sehool Students of E. A. Fairman Public School enjoy an activity period during their first week back at school after a long hot summer.
