The company is attem- pting to reduce the region's development levies by a substantial amount. Ted Phelps, vice-president of Paramount, said that the region "is making things awkward"' by stalling on requests for information from his firm. When the 0MB holds its preliminary hearings, on September 17, Paramount representatives will seek a motion 0f discovery which would force the region to reveal that information, Pheips said. He said that the company wants to know what the region plans to do with the more that $500,000 it must pày to build a 190 unit sub- division on the east side of Anderson Street at Manning Road. The region's assistance colicitor, Reino Kallia, said that the information the company wants would "take months to gather". "We are not stalling at ail," he said. Kallio also said that some of the information requested by the developer may not be relevant to the case before the 0MB although this will be decided at the hearing. Paramount wants the in- formation to support its con- centration that the regional lot levy of $2,740 per unit is unfairly high. It seems there are so many people deliberateiy hurting one another these days, now more than ever. It always was so but now it is intensified. Why? Because it's often me first and you don't matter. We ail matter, every one of us. We are ail impor- tant in the scheme of things. We ail have dignity and pride and few of us can be fluffed off as being nonenities. I have asked people today what the word love means to them. One child immediately said, "animais, I love my cat. " Another, one of my new grandaughters- said "oh, parents, grandmothers and grandfathers, and, of course, ail my new relatives!1" Another said, " love is caring, really. caring, that's bwhat love means to me." Yes, IPm in love. I have a kind, moet thougbtful, loving. husband, one who cares terribly about many things. I too, love many things. Old friends, some of whom go back weil over fif- ty years. My children and their eilîdren of whom I arn very happy and proud. A parent is always a parent and that is why a mother says to a middle-aged son, "Did you ear a good break- fast today?" Or, to a daughter, "do take care, and don't drive too fast." That is caring, not interference. The parent-child relationship is always there until the position i4 reversed as the parent grows old. Then the child becomes the parent, the parent, the child, and often maybe only for a few short years. My husband and I have wondered when we might feel we could disagree, have an argument or whatever. It has taken some time but at long last we know; we do have something to adapt to. Shopping for food and losing each other, a bone of contention. 1 walk too fast and I lose my husband. This always happens and he had warned me before, "once you find you are alone, stop, stand still and don't move an inch". I lost him, kept walking, forgot I had a husband and suddenly remem- bered, I did have a husband and he had brought me shopping. Where was he? I remembered his admonition, "stand stili, don't move an inch and VUi find you." I didn't stand stiil; I walked franticaily back and forth in that huge store. What happened to him? Where was he? The end resuit, now I arn to push the cart and follow hlm. I may and I may not. We will see.
