Mayor' s eup race roils underway Oshawa Centre will be the scene 0f the first Annual Mayor's Cup Roller Skating Race, on August 24, 1980. Motorcity Rollarena Manager, Dave Emerson says, "The event will offer events for skating en- thusiasts from age ten to an open-age category. " The race will cover laps of 1 / miles around the Oshawa Centre. Emerson says the event will attract as many as one thousand entries from St. Catherines to Kingston. "The race" according to Emerson "is to give skaters a chance to skate out-doors in a competitive event. " The event will include the celebrity one lap race, the Youth division Boys and Girls 10 and under (one full lap around the centre), boys and girls il, 12, 13, (3 full laps around the Centre), and also the Open division both men and women over 15 ( 8 full laps around the Centre). Anyone is eligible to enter, with registration fee at $1.00. If a person wishes to wear a shirt with advertisement, the fee will be $500.
