Tuesday JuIy 15 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. there will be Music and Crafts. Thursday JuIy 17 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:ý30 p.m. ...movies. Friday July 18 starting at 2:30 a special afternoon ail the kids will want to be in on. It is called our mini-musical and talent show... "Want to be a Star?" Here is your chance. Nt least you can have fun trying and may be win a prize for your talent. So get your act together and corne to the library. Monday July 21 we are again being treated to a super puppet show by the Corîs Puppet Players at the Brooklin Community Centre. This year's plays are "The Three Billy Goats Gruff " and "The Lonely Giant". There will be one performance only at the Brooklin Community Centre at 10:45 a.m. Please be early and children under 5 should be accompanied by an aduit. There is no charge, these plays are presented courtesy of the Central Ontario Regional Library System s of which your local library is a member. Features for the rest of the Story hour Beginning tomorrow, July 10, from 10 to il a.m' ', the Whitby Public Library wilI hold a story hour for children between the ages of three and six. WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNFSDAY, JULY 9,19'80, PAGE 7 Flower show turned up roses By MARGARET ÈEATH BHS Director ~'Everything's Coming Up Roses", proved to be a most appropriate theme for the fiower show held by the Brooklin Horticultural Society on June 25. In spite of ramn, hail, wind, etc., it was a miost beautiful show with 135 entries. President Valerie Hundert opened the meeting at 8: 10 p.m. and all present sang 0 Ambulance cails For the week that ended last Thursday at midnight, the Whitby Ambulance Ser- vice responded to 92 calîs for service. The service responded to 32 routine calîs and to 31 standby calîs for other am- bulance services in Ajax and Oshawa, They also answered 23 emergency calîs and went to five motor vehicle acciden- ts. Canada, following which she welcomed more than 55 people who attended, in- cluding guests iromn Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax, Uxbridge, Hampton and Lambeth, way down in Middlesex County. Margaret Beath, secreatary, then gave a report on the Ontario Hor- ticultural Association's An- nual Convention, held in beautiful Thunder bay. She and the president attended as delegates and remarked on the hospîtable welcomne accorded them by the Thun- der Bay Society. The president then an- nounced that the society will be entering its prize-winning float in the -Couty Town Car- nival Parage. She also thanked Joan Brank and her committee for graciously making corsages, bouton- nieres and table arrangements for the Grade VIII graudation class at Meadowcrest School. Doris Marlow then in- troduced Audrey Meiklejohn of the Canadian Rose Society, speaker for the evening. She is a multi- talented lady and possessed 0f a fine sense of hum~our, is considered to be one of Canada's best flower arrangers; is a well known judge and member of the Ontario Garden Club, as well as a Director of the Canadian Rose Society. Mrs. Meiklejohn imparted many valuable tips on the growing, showing and arranging of roses. Margaret Beath thanked the speaker. Judge for the show was Mrs. Genevieve Robertson who did a fine job of what must have been a very dif- ficult task. Prize for Best Specimen Red Rpose, donated by Red Rose Tea Co., was won by Rene Thiebaud and Best Decorative prize, donated by Brooklin Pro Hardware, was won by Dorothy Barter. Best Sepcimen of the Show, prize donated by Red Rose Nursery, was won by Gib Marlow. Everyone enjoyed viewing this particular show as well as the refreshments organized by Aldine Wick and served by Willie Nesbit- t and Margaret Powell.
