Forum on drug, alcohol abuse to be held inWhitby Gartshore in the scrum Mayor Jim Gartshore looks uncomfortable in the middle of this rugby scrurn as demon- strated to him by the boys of the Gowerton Comprehensive School near Swansea in Wales. The boys were on an il day tour of southern Ontario playirig rugby against high school teams here including Whitby's Anderson Collegiate. The team presented Gartshore with a tour tie, a plaque from the school and a plaque and letter of greetings from the mayor and town of Gowerton. In return, the mayor gave every member of the team and their coaches mementoes of their visit to Whitby. The Durham Region District Health Council has planned on open information forum for the provision of in- formation and education on aichol and drug abuse to anyone who wishes to at- tend. Particular emphasis will be focussed on the problem of alcohol and drug abuse amongst the youth as the District Health Counil's Substance Abuse Committee has identified this problem as a priority concern requiring immediate atten- tion and action. The forum has been scheduled for Thursday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. to be held in the Council Chamn- bers of the Whitby Municipal Building, 575 Rossland Road East, Whitby. Everyone is welcome to attend and par- ticipate. This is an open forum planned to provide the commumity with the op- portunity to learn more about the problem and to oh- tain answers to questions on alcohol and drug abuse. The members of the District Health Council's Substance Abuse Committee comprising, Tom Edwards, chairman and also a mem- ber of District Health Coun- cil, Geof Brown, director, addiction research foun- dation, Brian McL.atchie, director, Pinewood Detox Centre and Jack C., alcoholics anonymous wil present their roles in aiding to reduce the problem of alcohol and drug abuse and also answer questions and concerns of persons atten- ding the forum. Gray has played major lacrosse in Brooldin for the past three years and prior to that played senior/major lacrosse in both Brantford and St. Catharines. He also played junior lacrosse in Oshawa with Lasco and Whitby with the B and R Transporters. The club also announced that the two assistant coaches wîll be Brian Brady and Eric branton. For several years Brady coached the Whitby junior club and helped them to several Ontario and Canadian championships.
