Broolî Horticultural Society report By MARGARET BEATH BHS Director Civic Beautification received a real boost on February 27 when the Brooklin Horticultural Society held its monthly meeting. The meeting was opened at 8:15 p.m. by President Valerie Hundert and those present sang 'O Canada' ac- companied by Rose Heron on the piano. Alt.hough the weather was very 'unco- operative, thirty-five hardy souls were in attendance. The president welcomed the members as well as visitors from Nestieton and Blackstock and then conduc- ted a brief business meeting. This was followed by a "Paint-mn" under the capable direction of Ken Brown whose horicultural knowledge is qwite exten- sive. Planting trays were distributed to hose present and Ken issued clear and r_ - concise instructions, liberally laced with his own witticisms and the resuits were very gratifying to ail. Fourteen seed flats in al were pianted which will con- tribute greatly towards the civic plantings in spring. Mr. Brown also showed slides on. seed plantings and related subjects. Jack Alian hanked the speaker. Brian Wich of Brookiin, spoke briefly on decorative wooden hanging planters which are for sale by the Junior Achievers. These are a real buy at $500 and the proceeds are for a good cause. They make a great gift, so why not give Brian a cail. Contestants wiil be asked to partake in a speaking com- petition, a group talent routine and a modelling portion. There will be no single talent competition or bathing suit portion to the show. BROOKLIN AND DISTRICT KINSMEN IIERITAGE DAY The Brooklin and district Kinsmen Club recognized Heritage Day on February 20 by introducing Litery Achievement Awards for the students of Meadowcrest and St. Leo's Schools. The competition and presentation of these awards will be sponsored each year by the Kinsmen Club. These awards wilI be presented for accomplishment in literary achievement.
