Father may they be one in us, as you are in me and I arn in you, so that the world may believe it was you who sent me. (John 17:21) Jesus Christ came in the name of His Heavenly Father and the power-of the Holy Spirit to establish the Kingdom of God on earth. It was to be a Kingdom in which ail divisions, hatreds and injustices would be done away with because men had corne to know Jesus, and to be united in His life and filled with His love. Ail Chrisfians believe that through faith in Jesus and through baptism, we have become children of God and co- workers witn the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit in the Mission of Salvation to our world. Prayerfully recali and reflect upon this magnificent message of St. Paul to the members of the Church Corn- munity at Ephesus: "Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with ail the spiritual blessings of heaven in Christ. Before the world was made, he chose us, chose us in Christ to be -holy and spotless, and to live through love in his presence, determining that we should become his adopted sons, through Jesus Christ... He has let us know the mystery of his purpose... that he would bring everything together under Christ as head, everything in the heavens and everything on earth... "I, the prisoner in the Lord," continues St. Paul, 'Implore you, therefore, to lead a life worthy of your vocation. Bear with one another charîtably, in complete selflessness, gen- tleness and patience. Do aIl you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit, just as you were ail called into one and the same hope when you were called. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God who is Father of ail, over ail, through aIl and within al." Thanks be to God, serious and committed Christians, clergy and laity, alike, are now coming together more frequently and in greater numbers in an effort to heal our divisions and so to give more effective witness to our faith in Jesus and the Good News.
