JANUARY 9 1990, PAGE 9 Whitby landslide as girls beat Oshawa 9m2 Blades win tourney The Whitby Blades girls hockey teamn participated in the Kingsdale Christmas Hockey totirnament on December 29 and 30. The blades superior play led them to win the tour- namnent which included teams from Detroit, Toron- to, London, Michigan and Windsor area. In their first game the Blades defeated Essex Shoreline by a score of 7 to 2. Whitby also defeated Blenhem 8 to 2, Fort Erie 8 to 0, Michigan Mini Wings 4 to 3 and Shoreline 5 to 3. In an exciting game against Michigan the two teams played to a 2 all tie at the end of the third period. The score remaind tied after an additionat period of over- time. In two shootouts to break the tie the blades defeated the Michigan team 2 to 1 to make the final score 4 to 3. Most Valuable Players in the 5 games were Cathy Lehman, Marg Fraser, Tammy Carol, Cathy Kemp and Fiona Strait. High scorers in the tour- nament were Marg Fraser with 20 points, Lois Petrie with 16, Fiona Skurjat with 13 and Cathy Lahmen with 8. Also scoring for the blades were Julie Randaîl with 7, Joan mayer with 4. In ringette action over tfle weekend Whitby Lasco Stel belles defeated Oshawa by a landslide score of 9 to 0. Scoring for Whitby were Marlene Brown with 3 goals, Glenda Roberts with 3, Deb- bie Fice with 2 and Alison Fleming with 1 goal. Contributing assists were Brown, Roberts, Fleming and Diane Pettis. Linda Kingston got her first shutout in Saturdays game. Whitby juniors were defeated by Oshawa No. 1 by a score of 8 to 4. Connie Hamers displayed an excellent offensive per- formance scoring all of Whitby's 4 goals. Heather Robertson aided Hamers with 3 assists. The juniors were again defeated on Sunday by Oshawa No. 2. Confie Hamers and Heather Robertson again split the scoring with Hamers hitting for 4 goals and Robertson for 1. Assists went to Debra Warmington, Susan Pipher, Lori Glaspell, Shelly Garland and Susan Crosson. The final score was Oshawa 7, Whitby 5. In tween action on Sunday Whitby dumped Oshawa No. 2 by a score of il to 1. High scorers for the win- ning team were Mary Lou Spencer with a stunning 5 goals followed by Tracy Morash with 4. Julie Donaldson and Maureen McCrosson each hit for 1 goal. Contributing assists were Spencer, Morash, Donald- son, Tammy Baites, Carie Sullivan and Angela Stout.
