New in town Nissan test drive benefits Habitat Nissan Canada is donating $20 to Habitat for Humanity Halton for every test drive taken now through Dec. 24. In addition, Nissan pledges $5 for every new "like" it receives on its Facebook page until the end of the promotion. "In Halton, many individuals and families are struggling to make ends meet. Housing prices continue to climb and a growing number of people cannot afford decent and affordable homes," stated a Habitat press release. With the help of volunteers, sponsors, corporate partners, donors and sales generated from the ReStore, Habitat Halton has placed 17 families in homes and plans to build another 10-15 homes in the region by 2014. "If we can raise more money, we can build more homes and make a greater difference in the community," John Gerrard, Habitat Halton's executive director, said in the release. "We are on the cusp of taking our impact to the next level." Habitat for Humanity provides interest-free mortgages to eligible partner families. People can help by making a financial donation, donating building materials and household items to the ReStore or giving their time, as volunteer opportunities range from working in the ReStore, on the salvage crew or a build, on a committee or providing administrative support in the office.
